Xiaomi Redmi 5 MIUI 10 update (With Download Links & Update Timeline)

Xiaomi Redmi 5 is the successor of the Redmi 4 and was launched last year in December. It is an entry-level smartphone with all-rounder specs except for an average camera. Most people would mistake it for a mid-range device in their first impressions.

Initially, the smartphone ran on MIUI Global 9.2 edition built on top of Android 7.1 Nougat. The Chinese smartphone manufacturer did a good job of giving it the newest version of the update but as usual, there is no confirmation for future updates. Xiaomi does have a great track record of giving updates in time for its older smartphones.

The company is yet to give an official confirmation for the Android Oreo update but they will eventually get it as the predecessor Redmi 4 was given an Android Nougat upgrade from Marshmallow. We expect it to roll out somewhere in Q3 or Q4 2018. Many users have raised complaints about the late updates in official forums and many have turned to custom ROM’s for new features and upgraded performance. In this post, we will be talking about the Redmi 5 MIUI 10 update.

MIUI 10 Launch

Xiaomi has launched MIUI 10 on the Annual launch Event held on May 31, and was launched globally on June 7th along with Redmi Y2. The company has already opened MIUI 10 beta registrations in China, with this month as the last date to submit their applications.

How is MIUI 10 different?

MIUI was officially announced on January 23 in a media event in Hong Kong where they told that the upcoming version will focus on AI and Machine learning which will make a lot of processes automatic by predicting real-world decisions. The new version will be adapted according to your usage habits and divert the power to a certain set of apps. This will mean less lag, faster navigation more power and efficiency.

The AI will be able to recognise real-world features like distinguish your gender, age, frame along with artificial objects like landscape, sky, flowers, grass, buildings. The upcoming update is said to bring a flurry of improvements over the current MIUI 9 and faster performance is one of them.

The Redmi 5 packs an average camera so it will be improved a lot by AI technology. The focus will improve automatically and the camera will be able to recognise primary subjects and shift the background according to it.

Will my device support it?

Xiaomi has previously announced that 6 devices namely the Mi 2/2S, Mi 4i, Redmi Note 4G, Redmi 2, Redmi 2 Prime and Mi Note will not be getting further updates.  It was speculated that devices running Android Marshmallow and above will only qualify for the MIUI 10 update and the company gave a full list of the compatible devices. As you can see above, the Redmi 5 makes it to the list but it’s highly unlikely that will roll out this year given Xiaomi’s record of lagging updates. The beta version may start this year which will be available beyond Chinese users like India, where there is a large fan base.  The final rollout will be launched in China first and eventually spread to other markets.

The Redmi 5 sports a full metallic and features a 5.7-inch display with a resolution of HD+ (720 x 1440 pixels). It is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 450 chipset. It is available in three memory variants: 2GB RAM + 16GB ROM, 3GB RAM + 32GB ROM and 4GB RAM + 64GB ROM.

The smartphone sports a 12MP rear camera with a pixel size of 1.25 micron and comes with features like PDAF and LED Flash. The camera works very well in low light conditions. It offers a 5MP front camera with a soft flash for video calling and low light selfies. It also includes Beautify 3.0 for enhancing selfies. The device is backed by a 3,300 mAh battery that claims to deliver up to an impressive 17 hours of standby time. It is offered in four colour variants: Lake Blue, Gold, Black and Rose gold.

The update is still on the way and we will update this post with the download link of MIUI 10 for Xiaomi Redmi 5 as soon as it arrives. Do keep checking this page
