List of Custom ROMs for Motorola Moto G 2nd Gen XT1068, XT1063 & XT1064 (2014 Edition)

Moto G 2nd Gen (2014), is a mid budget device that has been released in September 2014. The phone received a warm welcome just like it’s predecessor. But it failed (kind of) to attract much developer interest unlike the previous year’s Moto G (You’ll soon find out why, Read on). In this list, I’ll be listing all of the available custom ROMs of Moto G 2nd gen (2014).

Some people, like me just can’t live with a phone with Stock ROM! For me, running my phones on stock ROMs are like being jailed. I want to experiment the phone and unlock more possibilities and features that I can do with my phone. I’m pretty sure you’re also like me, else why would you read this?

Well, I have been searching for custom ROMs of Motorola Moto G second generation (2014 edition) for a very good friend of mine. And I found it pretty difficult to find the ROMs for the device. That’s why I made a list of custom ROMs for Moto G2 or second generation Moto G.

We have a total of 6 ROMs for the Moto G 2nd gen, but some model specific. We now have a fully functional Lollipop ROM for Moto G 2014 (2nd Gen) XT1063, XT1064, XT1068 & XT1069. Check out Titan Prime ROM from the list below.

Let’s start with the boring part. I guess you already know this and might have ignored a hundred times! Here we go again.
We (Gadgetraid) are not responsible for any damages that your device might undergo after flashing these ROMs. Rooting your phone and using custom ROMS have risks, and if instructions aren’t followed you can BRICK YOUR DEVICE. We are NOT responsible if your phone breaks, cries or die! And I forgot, your warranty will be void.

And the most basic thing, Double check the model numbers before flashing the ROM!

Your device should be Bootloader unlocked, Rooted and should have a custom recovery to install these ROMs. For a full guide on that, Click here.

Well, that was a small list isn’t it? Now the list have grown a little bit, but it’s still only 5 of them. That was all the ROMs I could find for Moto G 2014 edition. This post had an another motive too, which was to point out the pathetic developer support for the Moto G 2nd Gen. I used the word pathetic just because there is not even a fully functional unofficial port of CyanogenMod for this phone.

You might already know that most of the phones out there, be it from Samsung, Micromax or Xiaomi, has got an official/unofficial CyanogenMod ROM. But Moto G 2nd Gen doesn’t even have that (a fully working CyanogenMod ROM). The importance of CyanogenMod is that it is a common base for many ROMs and having an official supported CM shows the developer interest. We now have an unofficial CM 12 port for Moto G 2014, this is a good beginning, we can really hope that developer makes this ROM a fully functional one.

It’s been about 5 months since this device has been released. We just have to wait for more time, for more ROMs and development on this device to start. For now, this is a device to avoid if you want to play with your device to the extreme. We’ll be updating this list with the new ROMs when they are released.

  1. Hey I’ve got some more roms for you to add to your list:
First if offs the paranoid android rom this is what I’m currently running and is very stable with a decent amount of updates and stability.
Another one is carbon rom: this is good for people who love customisability however it’s not finished and has a few bugs, I ran this before paranoid android. Some of the bugs are to do with the notification and a system ui crash after the battery hits 15 or 5 percent but its usable.

  2. Hi, Abhijit

I have Moto G2 second generation. On this device, I have Android 5.0.2. Lollipop Titan. When I put on my laptop’s Ad-hoc Wi-Fi on, I am unable to detect it on Moto G2 but my other phones do. I don’t know what is the exact problem with this device. If you can able to help in this regard it will be great.

  4. hey I bricked my moto g 2014 while downgrading from lollipop to KitKat ……
    first I unlocked it successfully

then I tried to downgrade it with KitKat ROM…and now my PC is not recognizing it anymore……it is only displaying the unlocked warranty screen……more over I m not getting the original few of lollipop / KitKat of xt 1068……someone pls help…..any

    1. Well, you shouldn’t have downgraded your phone from lollipop to kitkat. It will surely brick it. But anyways, you can un brick it yourselves or submit the phone to the service center. You can drop a mail at, I’ll guide you with the un brick process. 🙂

    1. I would suggest you to try any kitkat based ROM, if you’re looking for battery and performance. 🙂
